The Bold, Italic, and Left, Center, and Right justification options in a block's text editor work as you might expect having used a text editor such as Microsoft Word. Highlight the text you'd like to make bold or italic and click on the corresponding menu icon. Standard keyboard shortcuts will work here as well.
The Left, Center, and Right alignment options apply to entire paragraphs, either the paragraph where the cursor is located if nothing is otherwise selected, or every selected paragraph if there is an active selection.
Links can be applied to text by highlighting the word or words you'd like to turn into a link and clicking the hyperlink icon in the menu bar.
It's important to note that whenever you're linking to another page on the main Libraries website, also known as an internal page, you should search by title and find the appropriate item in the dropdown list that appears. This ensures that the link will be updated even if the linked content's title or even URL changes.
If linking to an external site, which is any page whose URL does not begin with
www.library.upenn.edu, including those on LibGuides, Franklin, and other Libraries applications, enter the full absolute URL in the link box.
Bullet lists operate in the same way as the justification options in terms of applying to entire paragraphs. By default, the bullet will be applied to the paragraph in which the cursor is located. If more than one paragraph is selected, a bullet list will be created with each paragraph as an individual item.
The same is true for single line items. Any item that's separated from the following line by a full return will be treated as separate in a bulleted list.
These same rules apply to numbered lists, which can be added using the numbered list icon located in the menu bar next to the bullet list icon.
